What is beauty?
This is a very hard question for me to answer. I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of beauty vs imperfection, what it truly means to be beautiful and who in fact determines that.
When I was in university I chose to focus most of my projects – if not all – on the media and its effect on women. I didn’t think it was that big of an issue back then but it turns out that it is and has affected me on some level or another. I sort of touched on this topic a little bit in my “what a twister post” but this is something I’ve had on my heart for a long time.
Everyday we are exposed to thousands of ads showing a very unrealistic portrayal of real life. From being extremely skinny, to having perfect hair and flawless skin, these things put a toll on us. Always feeling inadequate can lead to destructive behavior like bad eating habits or even depression. It is unfathomable but it is the truth. For me it has always been comparing myself to others and seeing how I can ‘improve’ myself to be ‘better’. Those words are in quotations for a reason because it seems so silly to think that way, but a lot of girls do it.
One thing I am hoping to achieve in life is to help women and whoever needs to hear this, to just be you. It is so hard to do this in a world that is constantly telling you to be something else. I have my ups and downs believe me. But showing the world who you are is the best thing you can do, whether it is through your style, or the colour of your hair, your hobbies, what you read and how you influence those around you etc. The list is endless and you can be all of them.
For me right now I am choosing to express myself through my style and this blog. Turns out that blogging is a very personal and difficult thing to do when you choose to open yourself up to the world and let them see into your life. I believe that in order to make a difference you need to be honest and I hope I can help at least one person be their genuine self. I want to explore the world to help and encourage women to be their true self, learn from them, and promote their lives and crafts. This is my dream, what is yours?
I encourage you to try something new, discover who you are and show the world. I hope that this blog will help you achieve that.
Everyone is beautiful no matter what the world’s current definition of that may be. I have a few photos to share of some friends and family who I believe are beautiful and are of great inspiration to me.
Until next time my lovelies and again – everything you do, do with love. So much love and beauty, I hope it inspires you to be yourself and to learn to be okay with who you are.
